Our Story
Hello! We’re Derek and Anja, the couple behind Orgánico.
Derek is native Costa Rican, from the Osa peninsula, and Anja is from Norway. We met right here in Nosara in 2016 and quickly bonded over our passion for surfing, wholesome food and our love of spearfishing. Now we’re married!
Back when we met, there were limited options for quick, healthy food here in Nosara and we were drawn to the idea of being a part of changing that. We acquired Organico in 2019, which had been operating as a natural convenience store since 2009.
Two years after that we also acquired the iconic Cafe de Paris bakery across the street. Combining the store and the bakery allows us to integrate our passions for fresh, healthy baked goods, wholesome food, and sustainable fishing.

Local Farms & Sourcing
We carefully source our food and products from suppliers who are intentional and rigorous about their health standards, sustainability efforts and environmental impact. We love our farmers and suppliers!
We source our food and ingredients from farms across Costa Rica
We make three trips per week to our farms to ensure the food we sell is of the freshest, highest quality
Our farmers and suppliers have been thoughtfully hand-picked and we maintain a close relationship with each one
All of the prepared foods use ingredients from local, organic and biodynamic farms and our meat is always free-range and hormone free

We strive to offer a shopping experience that allows you to make the best choices for yourself and your family. Our goal is to operate transparently, so you have all the information you need about the food and products you purchase. We do this through sourcing, relationships with our farmers and suppliers, and by being open with our consumers about our process. We are always happy to answer any questions you have about our products and offerings.
